3-star LB, McCarthy plans to visit Army this summer

On Tuesday, GoBlackKnights.com caught up hard hitting inside linebacker Cody McCarthy from Boise (Idaho) Bishop Kelly High School.

Last week McCarthy was holding offers from Army and Washington State, but you can now add Idaho State and Idaho … well, at least officially Idaho State. "I just got an offer from Idaho State yesterday and Idaho a week ago," shared the 6-foot-1 1/2, 230 pounds earlier this week. "There was the defensive coordinator that called me and said they were going to offer, I'm just waiting on the paper (Idaho)."

I just got back from Idaho State's camp and pretty much grew up on the Idaho campus.

"I'm planning on going to Army this summer and going to New York to check it out," shares McCarthy, who is being recruited by Army's offensive coordinator, Ian Shields.

"Coach Shields came by two weeks ago and I'm looking forward to visiting Army and the West Point campus … I've never been back East before."

Along with the three aforementioned offers in hand, McCarthy indicated that he is hoping to draw the interest of Boise State, Washington, North Carolina, Stanford, Washington, Texas Tech, Oregon State and Oregon.

In addition to his camp and college visits, McCarthy just returned from the Nike Combine held at Oregon State University: Corvallis, (Ore.)

"I had a good combine and my SPARQ Rating was 100.43 and 7th overall for all positions," shares McCarthy.

So, when will McCarthy be making his college decision? "I'm going to wait until in after my season and focus on my team," says the linebacker. "I have another season to play - my main goal is to lift my team up and we are trying to win a state championship."

Last season, Bishop Kelly finished 10-1.

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to update McCarthy's recruitment as it unfolds.
