Busy summer winding down for Bennett

Erie (Pa.) McDowell defensive end Andrew Bennett has attended about ten football camps at various schools this summer so he has obviously been very busy to date.

Those camps have paid off in the form of three scholarship offers. Ohio, Toledo and Youngstown State have all put offers on the table, impressed with what the 6-foot-6, 240-pound end has to offer.

"We went down (to camps at) North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio State ... Pitt was one of our first ones. I went to Youngstown, Toledo and a few other ones. We've done a bunch of camps and we're weightlifting and running with our school's weight program."

Of the schools that have offered, Bennett said one is sticking out and he feels comfortable calling them his favorite -- at least for now.

"At this point I'd say Toledo is at the top of my list. I like them and I like how their coaching staff does things. They're cool guys. The Toledo camp was in Cleveland but I think we're going for a visit on July 19th.

"I was at Youngstown but I didn't really tour the school. They just showed us around the football facility. I haven't been to Ohio yet. They were at the Ohio State camp."

North Carolina's coaches have told Bennett they will start recruiting him more if they are impressed with his first couple of games in his senior season, which they hope to watch on tape. Iowa and Iowa State both told Bennett they wanted to evaluate him and their camps but he was unable to make it out that far away from home. He plans on sending his tape to those schools as well.

Other MAC schools like Bowling Green and Northern Illinois are very interested as well. Bennett said he has been recruited to play either tight end or defensive end.
