Army keeping an eye on Hoover prospects

For the Army staff, the recruiting grounds continue to stretch demographically and strategically. It has been no secret that the Black Knights continue to plant a flag with some of the top programs around the nation.

Now, it looks as though the Army staff has an eye on the talent in Alabama, and more specifically, Hoover High School.

TEAMMATES

Cornerback Preston Sanford, defensive tackle Max Elliott and linebacker/defensive end Tyler Roberts have popped up on the Black Knights' radar screen.

Although none of the aforementioned Hoover players have offers from Army that may change very soon according to Sanford. "As of right now I have talked to Army and they are real interested … and I'm expecting an offer from them," shares the swift cornerback.

"I went up to Army for an unofficial visit June 28th. I loved everything about it -- Their campus is beautiful, their facilities are top notch … you can't get any better than what they have there.

Navy offered me to go to camp on the 26th and since we were close to West Point, my dad and I wanted to check out West Point."

For Sanford, who is being recruited by cornerback coach Tony Coaxum, he has visited some to tier programs and walked away highly impressed with the Black Knights' football facilities. "I've to Vanderbilt, UTC, Alabama … everywhere in the south and they are just as good if not better," says Sanford, who also has a respectful relationship with Coaxum, who was able to be in attendance for Sanford's visit.

"I enjoy talking to him and I call him about once every two weeks. We have a pretty good relationship. He couldn't be there that day, but another assistant took us on a tour of the buildings, facilities, the campus …. Everything.

When asked about his interest in Army, the 5-foot-10, 190 pound defensive back stressed that considering any of the academies is a serious decision. "When you are considering one the academies, you have to really think about it," Sanford said. "But I'm really interested in Army and I'm hearing from Navy a little, but not Air Force."

GoBlackKnights.com will have more to come on Sanford's teammates, Max Elliott and Tyler Roberts.
