Tyler Sykes speaks about visit to Army

Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove High School is a school that the Army coaching staff is familiar with.

The Black Knights' 2010 consisted of defensive tackle Joe Cox who would have been a direct admit, but a medical concern enabled his admission into West Point. But as previously mentioned in an March article, the Black Knights' staff also had their eye on 2011 safety Tyler Sykes prospect who attends Center Grove.

This past Wednesday the 6-foot-0, 188 pounder took an unofficial visit to Army and walked away even more impressed. "I was shocked the whole time," says Sykes, who was hosted on the tour by his recruiter, coach Joe Ross.

"I was down on Michie Stadium field and talked about the history of Michie. The football facilities are awesome … the best that I have seen and the indoor field is amazing - everything was unbelievable."

Sykes was making a East Coast tour of schools that also consisted of Harvard, Holy Cross and Brown, but the proverbial feeling is that if he is offered by Army, he would become a Black Knight.

"Coach Ross indicated that will be watching my senior season and I'm sure if I have a great year an offer will be coming sometime in November or December," shares Sykes.

Sykes is being recruited as a safety, where he has played that role the past four years in high school.

During his junior year, he pulled down 3 interceptions, had 2 forced fumbles, along with 50 plus tackles on the season, all while missing two games due to injury.

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Sykes' recruiting throughout.
