Lumpkin enjoyed trips to Pitt, Rutgers
Keith Lumpkin may be the best offensive lineman from New Jersey that is still available from the Class of 2011 so his stock will be at an all-time high as he enters the fall and begins his senior season at Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep.
Earlier this summer Lumpkin narrowed his list to ten schools. Florida and Georgia are the only two schools still in contention that have not offered yet, while Illinois, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pitt, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida and Wisconsin are also still in the hunt.
The 6-foot-8, 295-pound line prospect recently visited two of the schools that are still on his list.
"I just came back from Pitt and Rutgers," he recalled. "I was at Pitt on Saturday and yesterday I was at Rutgers.
"Pitt was good. Everything went well. I got to see the coaches. I got to see how they coach and I saw how they practice.
"I enjoyed Rutgers, too. I did the same thing at both basically. I just watched practice, watched them do their film (work) and meetings and then got campus tours.
"I got the feeling I could fit in at both (schools)."
Lumpkin said he is done with unofficial visits and college tours for the summer. The next step will be to start to set up official visits and he isn't sure where he will be going for those yet.
He is not sure whether he will narrow his list before he goes on his official visits or if he will simply start setting them up and go from there.
When asked what the single biggest factor in his decision would be Lumpkin seemed to know what he was looking for in a school and football program.
"The biggest thing, other than academics of course, is just how the team is. Whether it's guys that are together or if they're just to themselves."
