Breaking down the linebacker board
After the University of Florida pulled perhaps one of the best defensive classes ever last year, the one unit that was "lacking" star power was at linebacker. Not one of the linebacker commits from the class of 2010 was in the rivals 100. That should be a major difference between last year's class and this year's.
UF is not lacking in options with four of their top targets in the top 100, and current commit Ryan Shazier sitting right outside the top 100.
Currently UF has 11 linebackers on scholarship, including 3 seniors that will be leaving after this season, all of whom are largely involved in the current rotation of starting backers for UF; they are A.J. Jones, Brandon Hicks and Lorenzo Edwards.
Of the eight who should be back when the 2011 kids arrive on campus, only two will likely see significant time on defense this season; sophomore Jon Bostic, and redshirt freshman Jelani Jenkins.
That leaves a majority of unproven players to fill in the rotation for the 2011 season, setting up a perfect opportunity for one of the elite class of 2011 linebackers to come in and earn a spot in UF's starting unit.
These are the prospects that UF has left on board.
