Crume changes visit plans

Defensive tackle has been one position that the Syracuse Orange have struggled to recruit in the past few years. They just added Ryan Sloan who has the option to pick offensive line or defensive line, but they still need more tackles. Eric Crume is one defensive tackle prospect the Orange have their eyes on.

Crume, 6-foot-2, 320 pounds has had the Orange offer for a few months now and it is one of the reasons he thinks his recruiting is going well.

"Recruiting is going good," Crume said. "Syracuse is talking with me the most that is my only offer right now. I have been talking with Michigan, Toledo, Akron, Michigan State, and Iowa as well."

With a bunch of schools talking to him has anybody besides Syracuse talked about offering?

"They all want to see more film and they also want to see my SAT score."

Since Syracuse is the only school to offer they are sitting in solid position for the defensive tackle.

"They are a good school and number one on my list."

For Syracuse they stand in the lead because of the coaches on the staff. Crume is very high on his recruiting coach and his possible defensive line coach at Syracuse.

"I like the coaches at Syracuse. I talk with Coach Wheatley and Coach Brumbaugh. I talk to Coach Wheatly the most."

Tyrone Wheatley does not have a great relationship with Crume because he was the first Orange coach to talk with him. The relationship goes deeper as the two are from the same area in Michigan.

"Coach Wheatley is from the area I am from and he just tells me like it is and keeps it real."

Right now the Orange are in good position to land Crume, but they will have to wait a little bit longer to get him on campus.

"I was supposed to go on my visit this week, but I had to reschedule because we have a playoff game now on Saturday."

When he finally goes on his visit he will be looking for a few items.

"I am going to be looking at the environment, the education, how the team prepares on game day, and what kind of players they are bring in."

At the conclusion of that visit there Syracuse Orange football team could get some good news in the form of a verbal commitment.

"There is a nice chance," Crume said of making a commitment to Syracuse after his visit.

This season for Crume is going well and his team is preparing for their first playoff game.

"The season is going good. We are 4-3. I am doing good, but it has been a tough season so far," Crume said. "This season I have about 50 tackles and eight sacks."
