Chippewas interested in TC St. Francis big man Sean Sheldon
Traverse City (MI) St. Francis has a reputation of producing division one athletes, and 2012 is no exception. Only a junior, Sean Sheldon is a 6-foot-8 205 pound forward, who can do it all. It is no surprise that Central Michigan is aggressively recruiting versatile big men, especially guys that can stretch the defense from the perimeter. Versatility is one of the biggest assets in Sean's arsenal.
"I love to play in the post, around the basket, but can also step out and stretch the defense with my three point shooting".
After suffering a disappointing two point loss to Suttons Bay in the district finals last season, Sheldon hopes another year of experience, mental toughness, and senior leadership translates into a deeper playoff run and state championship for St. Francis. Sean's outstanding play from a season ago has allowed him to garner offers from Toledo, Western Michigan, Lehigh University, Wright St., William & Mary, and Miami OH. Another school showing interest is Central Michigan, and Sean gave his thoughts on the Chippewa's.
"I haven't been in contact with CMU lately, but still receive emails. They have been doing well with their recruiting classes and should have a standout season. Getting Trey Zeigler is a big boost for them".
While attending CMU's junior day, Sean had the opportunity to get a firsthand account of the new Events Center and came away impressed, although facilities won't play a huge role in his decision.
"It is a great venue for a college basketball game," added Sheldon. "I'm looking for a strong academic school, great basketball program, and style of play".
Sean is still in the early stages of his recruitment and will not come out with a top three or five until after some visits. As for a decision, CMU fans and others will have to wait until the end of the season.
"I'm visiting Penn State first and will probably make a decision after the season is over."
