Chippewas looking at Lake Orion RB Marques Stevenson
Lake Orion, running back Marques Stevenson has his team running into the playoffs after an 8-1 record with their next game being in the playoffs versus 7-2 Davidson. He hopes to keep running through the playoffs and furthering his personal and team expectations.
"Yeah, I'm where we expected to be. I'm where I thought we could be and thought was possible, but I believe we can go a lot further. Were 8-1 and we hope to continue winning," said Stevenson. "I've put up a lot of good numbers and have had a really good season and a lot of that is from only playing in the first half. I've played only the first half in 6 of 9 games. My last game I passed 1000 yards and 14 TDS for the season and I'm very happy with that."
With the help of his teams run into the playoffs, the 5-foot-10, 180 pound Stevenson is gaining more interest from schools with his only offer coming from Air Force.
"I have an offer from Air Force. Yale and Harvard along with other Ivy League schools are giving me plenty of interest. Others include Vanderbilt and MAC schools Bowling Green and Central Michigan," said Stevenson. "The schools just seem like they want to be continually be in touch and have me send them my senior season highlights".
As for what Stevenson is looking for in a school.
"I'm just looking for a school with great balance, a lot of academic options, serious about football, serious about me, and just a place where I can thrive in" said Stevenson.
While Central Michigan has yet to offer him, the Chippewas are looking to add a running back or two in the 2011 class and Stevenson has been to campus numerous times, including camps.
"It's a great place, local, and I know the area pretty well. Also I know current players and a lot of people that go there. I know Cody Wilson who is from a school nearby and a lot of other people from Oakland County," said Stevenson. "I've been to a lot of CMU camps, so I know a lot of players from that, like Alex Niznak too.
As a player, Stevenson continues to improve each game and he has developed into a complete running back for his Lake Orion squad.
"I'm a great person, and a team player. My strengths include my explosiveness, good ball handling skills, hard to bring down, good between the tackles, and I'm good in open field," said Stevenson. "My weaknesses I would say is just to add 15 pounds of muscle and just continue to get stronger."
While he is still caught up in the first game of playoffs for Lake Orion, Stevenson does have an idea of what schools he plans on taking official visits to.
"Earlier this year I had an unofficial to Air Force when they played BYU and I just thought it was a great place and I hope to have my official visit there soon. I plan to take official visits to Harvard, Yale, Bowling Green, and maybe CMU. I haven't completely decided where yet, because I only get five and I want to make sure I take them at the correct places," said Stevenson.
And once he takes his visits after the season, he will sit down with his family and start to look at the pro's and con's of each school.
"I just need to sit down and evaluate the schools after my visits and the season. Right now it is a fair game and I have no clear leader," said Stevenson. "I plan to make a decision in December. or around December, but it could be before or even after. It all depends how comfortable I am with my decision."
For the time being ChippewaCountry will continue to follow Stevenson and his team throughout the rest of the playoffs.
