Semelsberger & Urbana excel in State Championship

On December 1st, GBK caught up with safety Matt Semelsberger who was preparing to return to his team's lineup as they were just one step from becoming State Champions (4A).

His season was cut short when he suffered a fractured fibula, but he worked hard to make a comeback as Urbana continued to make their way through the playoffs and into the championship game.

"I'm playing in the state championship this Friday," said the Army commit at that time. "We are 12-0 going into the game and I'm looking to get out there. I played last game, which was the first game back since week five."

For the 6-foot-1, 205 pound safety from Ijamsville (Md.) Urbana High School, this is would be the in final chapter of his high school career, as he and his teammates would take on Wise High School (12-1) at M&T Bank Stadium home of the Baltimore Ravens.

And according to our partners over at, it was a championship game that the players, coaches, family and fans will be talking about for years to come.

Without a doubt, the Black Knights have picked up a special prospect in Semelsberger and the hard hitting safety is anxious to adorn the black & gold of Army.

"I'm looking to setup my official visit to Army and I will be attending the Army-Navy game," shared Semelsberger.

Semelsberger, is ranked by as the 13th best defensive back in the state of Maryland, along with be listed as the 37th best player in the entire state.

The chances are that he will start his career off at strong safety (Sam), but could project later at the Rover or Whip positions.
