Poteat already fielding interest
Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt only resigned today but some of his top recruits are already hearing from some of the other schools that had been courting them prior to their verbal commitments to the Panthers.
One such prospect is Jameel Poteat, the nation's No. 15 running back and one of the prize jewels of Pitt's recruiting class this year.
The four-star prospect didn't know exactly what to think when Rivals.com caught up with him early Tuesday evening, and seems to be taking a wait and see approach.
"I was real high on coach Wannstedt," Poteat explained. "He caught my eye from day one. His style was, 'I'm gonna make sure you have the ball,' and stuff like that. He was a huge factor.
"I looked at the other guys and how he's taken care of them. I trusted him a lot."
There won't be much of a mourning period, as other schools are already showing interest and seeing how he will react.
"It happened during practice today and my voicemail is already full," he laughed. "Coaches are already calling. A coach from UConn is calling me right now as we speak."
So what is Poteat's status with Pitt right now? Is he still on board?
"As of right now I'm still committed but I'm going to wait and see," he said. "Honestly I don't know."
The four-star prospect said he would look at schools like Cincinnati, Rutgers, UConn and Tennessee if he did open things back up.
