Hokies still interested in 2011 wideout

Visits are starting up for an emerging wide receiver in the 2011 class. The Hokies haven't received a visit to date, but continue to be in consideration for the 6-foot-4, 180-pounder.

"I've got offers from Oklahoma State, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Toledo, NC State and Arkansas," New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Academy wide receiver Alonzo Russell said. "I've only visited Toledo.

"I went there this past weekend and I liked it at Toledo. I saw practice, met the coaches and players. I liked how much they threw the ball, they throw it a lot."

Russell is eyeing a trip to Pittsburgh this weekend for an official.

In the meantime, the Hokies continue to be in the picture.

"I'm hearing from Virginia Tech still," he said. "Last I know they are still recruiting me for January 2012.

"I don't know if I'm taking an official visit there, everything is up in the air right now with visits."

What does that mean?

"I'm deciding now on whether I'll take more visits in January," he said. "If I don't enroll I'm going to take more visits. I'm still thinking about whether I should wait or enroll. Most of the other offers are for January or summer enrollment."

Russell finished his prep season at Milford Academy hauling in 27 receptions for 353-yards and six touchdowns.
