Prospects speak out about Army's bowl win over SMU

Unlike Army's games against Navy, Air Force and Notre Dame, when the Black Knights hosted a several unofficial visitors for each of those game, and where the final score did not accurately reflect where Ellerson and staff have taken the program in only two years.

This time around, the Black Knights used their magic frequent flier potion, where in 2010 Army has not lost a single game where they had to board an airplane to play an opponent

Army game away yesterday with a 16-14 win over SMU and the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl 2010 Championship.

GoBlackKnights.com had a chance to speak with several of the prospects in order to get their take on the game itself and even their thoughts on playing for Army. There are a few like Workman, Evans and Semelsberger who have already made their pledge to become Black Knights.

The Recruits

Duran Workman, Safety

"I'm wonderful … it's been a good day today," says the future Black Knight.

"We got us a bowl win. I watched the game at my house with my dad and brother. The defense played great, especially the first half. I thought the offense needed to do what that needed to do to win, but the defense really held things down. I was really excited for McNary. You know it's his senior and he got a touchdown … last game and Anderson had a great game."

"I was a little bit nervous at the end of the game; especially that 3rd down pass that was a gutsy call and it barely went over that guys hand. But that's when you know it's meant to be."

I feel like I'm already part of the program and I feel a closeness to West Point. I always watch the defense and picture myself in their shoes. I'll get a better idea when I get up there for my official visit. I have an idea what they want me to do, but I just really want to do whatever I can do to get on the field and wherever they want me to play I will play.

David Evans, Offensive Lineman

"It was a great game," shares the Army commit. "I'm not a SMU fan, but I'm going to assume that even if you were a SMU fan it was still a great game … they had a comeback in the 2nd half and it was anyone's ball game all the way to the end."

"But I was rooting hard for Army to hold on."

"I'm looking forward to it more than ever after watching the game and I won't that same experience."

Joshua Trimble, Safety

Trimble was in attendance to watch his two brothers, along with taking in the game that he himself might perhaps participate in wearing the Black & Gold of Army.

"I attended the game with my parents and my uncle," says the prospect out of Virginia.

"I spoke to the coaches recently and taking an official visit the weekend of January 14th."

"I really enjoyed the game and looking forward to my visit there."

Jimmy Britton, Athlete

"I went to the game and it was great," says Britton who is out of Rogers (AR) Heritage High School and arrived in Texas the evening before.

"This morning (Thursday) we went to a briefing and met with Coach Coaxum on the sidelines. It was good to see him again because I hadn't seen him in a long time. I had a great time and the defense played well.

Coach Coaxum told me to watch a couple of positions … At the Sam & Rover spots and that's similar to how I play.

I really liked the defense … like what I saw, the scheme of it and I could see myself playing there."

For Britton, who is a soft commit to Navy, it will come down to the Black Knights and the Midshipmen.

Cody McCarthy, Middle Linebacker

"I was very impressed with what I saw and I can see myself playing for the Black Knights," shares the 3-star linebacker, who will be making his official visit to Army the weekend of January 29th.

"I'm really looking forward to my visit there."

Kelvin White, QB

"I didn't get a chance to watch the game, because I was busy … but I did record it and will be watching it later," shares the 6-foot-3, 210 pound quarterback prospect.

"But I do know they won 16-14," says White who indicated that he is in the final stage of completing his West Point application.

"I'm just looking to connect with Coach Waugh and I will probably commit as soon as I talk to him … hopefully sometime Friday morning."

Matt Semelsberger, Safety

Another prospect who's schedule didn't allow him to watch the game is Army commit Matt Semelsberger.

"I didn't get a chance to catch it because I had a wrestling tournament (215 weight class), but I heard it was a close game," say the hard hitting strong safety - linebacker prospect, who is a solid Black Knight commit.

"I can't wait to get there (Army)," he confirms.

Matt Giachinta, Athlete

"I watched the game on TV and I was very happy for the outcome and I was glad to see that," says the prospect out of New Jersey.

"I liked watching Hassin play, because that's the position they want me to play and he went over 1,000 yards … I like watching him play.

Right now Army is my favorite and won't make my decision until after my official. If I like my official visit (January 14th weekend) and I feel good about everything at that point, I plan on committing after that."
