More with Mungwa

On Wednesday night Shutang Mungwa flipped his commitment from Stanford to Syracuse. The switch was something that many people knew was a possibility, but it became a reality this week.

"I was not accepted into Stanford and Syracuse was like my 1a school, so then minute I found out I was not going to be going to Stanford I called Syracuse and committed."

Mungwa was recruited by Scott Shafer and he was the Orange coach who was first notified of the switch.

"I called Coach Shafer," Mungwa said. "They were excited and so was I."

At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds Mungwa is a bigger than average safety and he feels his size and ability fits what the Orange do on defense.

"I just feel like I fit in Coach Shafer's defense as an aggressive safety."

Now that he is headed to Syracuse he only has one thing on his mind.

"I just went to get Syracuse back and that is the only goal."

Once the Orange offered Mungwa it was an important day and he had a comment when he first received his Syracuse offer that makes this process come full circle.

"Syracuse sent me the offer letter on March 6th." Mungwa said. "It was one of the happiest days of my life. I am really thankful for Syracuse for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing college ball."

When reminded of the quote Mungwa talked about the full circle of events.

"Stanford was a great opportunity academically and that was one of the main reason I picked them. My heart though was really at Syracuse, so it is almost like coming back home. Syracuse was always on my mind and I am thankful they gave me my offer and now I get to stay close to home while I play for Syracuse."

Also on that day in March the Syracuse offer meant a little bit more as well.

"The day I got my Syracuse offer was the day I knew I could really play college ball."
