Lacey sets decision date
Huntsville guard Trevor Lacey knows what day he's choosing a college. He just doesn't know which college it will be yet.
"I'm still undecided," Lacey said. "I probably won't know until I decide and pick that hap up. That's when I'll know where I'm going."
Lacey will make his announcement on May 18 at 2 p.m. in the Butler High School library. His finalists include Alabama, Auburn, Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina State.
This weekend, the top uncommitted prospect is taking an official visit to Kansas. He has already made trips to Alabama, Auburn and Kentucky, and says he make take one more visit next weekend to either Connecticut or North Carolina State.
On his recent trip to Lexington, Lacey toured the campus and hung out with Kentucky stars Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones. Jones announced he was returning to school on Saturday, but Knight will keep his name in the NBA Draft.
Kentucky will also have Doron Lamb back, who plays the same position as Lacey, but the Huntsville native says that won't affect his decision.
"Not at all," Lacey said. "I shouldn't feel like anyone is better than me. I just feel like I can go out there and work hard. It's a coach's decision. No one has a guaranteed spot."
Alabama was Lacey's first official visit, and recently it seems like the Crimson Tide has lost some momentum in the race to land his signature. UA head coach Anthony Grant called Lacey on Thursday to make sure that wasn't case.
"I think that's what Coach Grant was saying," Lacey said. "He was asking if that's how I was feeling, but I'm not looking at it that way. Alabama's still right there."
North Carolina State entered the picture late but remains a player because of new Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried and his relationship with Lacey that he built while he was coaching at Alabama.
"He's been recruiting me since the seventh grade," Lacey said. "Having a guy that's been recruiting me that long, that's a plus."
Lacey received more good news when he got his ACT scores back this week. His score improved, and he now believes he will have no issues qualifying.
