Canton RB Has CMU Offer
A relatively unknown prospect is starting to gain the recognition that he strongly deserves as he nears his senior year at Canton High School (Mich). His name is Ryan Jones and he is a 5'10, 190 pound running back. Because he has been behind Davion Stackhouse and Kevin Buford on the depth chart at Canton, he hasn't been able to have the numbers and carries he would have liked. However, he is showing on the camp circuit that he has the tools to succeed at the next level.
"Last year went well. I got a chance to get used to the offense. Once it started clicking, I was more resourceful and knew where I was going. Now I know where all the alternate holes are that I can go through, so I just recognize them, find them and get out. I am going to continue to develop as a player as I get to the next level."
Jones has many attributes that will help him reach the next level on the field and pick up those coveted offers. He picked up his first offer a couple weeks ago from Central Michigan.
"I'm just explosive and make something out of nothing. I can get in the hole and get out. I am mainly just working to stay as humble as possible and continue to improve in any way that I can," explained Jones. "My only offer currently is Central Michigan, but I also have interest from Iowa, Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, Bowling Green, Syracuse, Eastern Michigan, and Michigan State."
Jones has plenty to offer a school, so he looking for good qualities that will help him narrow his options as he tries to figure out his best possible choice.
"I want a school that has a good business or broadcasting program. I like to hear about the history of the program and how it is run. Whether they keep the old tradition or try to bring in more new tradition. Also the facilities and the campus are big too," said Jones. "So far I really like Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Michigan, along with a few other schools."
Central Michigan has set the bar as Jones first offer and he has become familiar with the program. Central Michigan is in need of that explosive running back and they hope that Jones can be that guy.
"I just got my offer from Central after a track meet. Coach Stubblefield called from a number I didn't know. My coach told me to pick up and he (Coach Stubblefield) then handed the phone to Enos and he offered me," explained Jones. "I got back from Central about two weeks ago. It went well. I loved the place. The coaches told me that they wanted me to come."
While mainly focusing on track this spring, Jones still has plans for the future. This includes improving as a player and visiting camps, as he looks toward eventually making a decision.
"I am currently in the middle of my track season, but over the summer I plan to be in the weight room more and go to camps like CMU's. Where I ultimately go is a big decision. I plan to decide sometime between the beginning and the middle of my season," explained Jones. "I really like Central though because they didn't just talk to me, they wanted me. They keep in contact and so do I."
Jones participated in the Midwest Elite Football Exposure Camp in Wixom last week against some of the best players in the region.
"The camp went great, especially the second half. I just told myself after the first part that I have to show who I am and show something special," said Jones. "There were some good players there. I really liked the Plymouth guy at linebacker, Tyler Goble. He read plays well and he is a really good defender."
Ryan Jones has great explosiveness. He wants to be like Chris Johnson and other similar running backs that he has looked up to throughout his life.
"When I was younger it was Reggie Bush, then Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, and now Chris Johnson. I like them because of how explosive he is and into the open holes and gets out."
