Hard-working O'Connor fits right in at Michigan State
One day after prized quarterback commitment Tyler O'Connor was at the Michigan State one-day elite camp impressing coaches, spectators, and participants with his arm-strength and accuracy, the Lima Central Catholic star was back home spreading mulch to help raise money for his high school's athletic department.
"I would have rather been back up at Michigan State," said O'Connor. "We sold 26,000 bags of mulch to raise money for our athletic department. And let's put it this way, I have had my hands on a lot of those bags."
Doing yard work in the sun on a day the temperature reached 90 degrees in Northwest Ohio is something that most big-time football recruits aren't asked to do. O'Connor's willingness get his hands dirty in the hot summer sun one day after participating in a grueling four-hour football camp at Michigan State is an example of the blue collar work ethic that made the 6-foot-3 202-pound high school senior the top quarterback on Michigan State's wish list for 2012.
