DeSoto prep sees offer list grow

DeSoto (Texas) athlete Ridge Jones has made a reputation for himself with his foot speed. This off-season he has done nothing to hurt that legend by running sub-4.4 40-yard dash times at three camps.

"They say they like my speed and my explosion," the 5-foot-10, 165-pound Jones said. "I ran a 4.32 at DeSoto and then low 4.3's at North Texas, the Houston camp and at UTEP. I ran a low 4.4 on grass at the Miami camp."

All of this has netted Jones scholarship offers from Colorado State, Lousiana-Monroe, UTEP and North Texas. Impressive offers given the fact Jones didn't get much time on the field behind five wide receivers who went to Division I schools from DeSoto last season.

"Actually, I know my time would come, I just had to be patient," Jones said. "I have been working hard every day, doing different drills everyday, catching balls everyday and getting better at everything."

Jones said this summer he has attended camps at UTEP, North Texas, Houston and Miami. He will be at Baylor this weekend. He said Lousiana-Monroe is looking at him as a cornerback, but most other schools are telling him they are willing to try him at corner or wide receiver.

"I am liking all of them," Jones said about the schools who have contacted him. "I still haven't gotten set up (with all of his visits)."

Two schools likely to get visits from Jones are Colorado State and North Texas.

"Last time I talked to (Colorado State) was before the deadline for them to call," Jones said. "I was pretty excited. They were telling me about how they want me up there. I want to get up there," he said concerning a visit to Colorado State. "I just don't know when."
