Practice Rewind: Day 4
RELATED ARTICLE : Fall Camp Headquarters
Thursday, day four, and things seemed to drag along until the end of the day. Kick-off coverage was emphasized and Max Johnson showed a pretty good leg on kick offs. I expect Trevor Romaine to kick off, but if Coach wants to save his leg, Johnson could step right in.
Groups broke-up into individual drills and I noticed that Michael Doctor, Brian Watkins and Ryan Handford were not in pads. Doctor for hydration reasons and Handford had an eye appointment earlier in the day per Coach Riley. Brian Watkins had ice on his shoulder yesterday and I assume it's precautionary to hold him out. On a good note, Lance Mitchell was back up and running at full speed today.
I stood directly behind the receivers today for part of their individual drills and the attention to detail from Coach Brennan is amazing. From drive off the line, to where the eyes are, to breaks out of routes, to ball security, Brennan is going to have this group of playmakers ready come September.
I also noticed that offensive tackle Michael Philipp wasn't with the 2nd team o-line all day. Again in his place was walk-on Jake Welch.
FEATURED POSITION OVERVIEW
We flip over the line of scrimmage today to take a look at the defensive line. Word on d-tackle Castro Masaniai is expected to be made public tomorrow. His status has been up in the air for a few months now, hopefully the 340 pounder can suit up and get to work tomorrow.
