How does Devall stack up?
I had a chance to watch Devall in person against Shreveport Woodlawn and fellow Rivals250 linebacker Torshiro Davis. To be honest, I was not expecting too much of Devall. We had some junior film on him that was not all that impressive, especially at the linebacker spot. That is why we had him listed as a defensive end. I was very pleasantly surprised though. He was a natural at inside linebacker. What was most impressive was his ability to move laterally. I expected him to be a little bit stiff but that wasn't the case. He was truly able to play sideline to sideline. He also showed pretty good speed. I'm not sure if he will be able to play outside linebacker in the SEC but he is certainly fast enough to man the middle.
He was also clearly a leader on the field. The team and the whole community had nothing but good things to say about him. That's not always the case with a high-profile recruit. There was an Alabama assistant coach at the game as well and I found it interesting that he spent almost the entire time watching Devall, not Davis, during warmups. He was clearly a serious target for the Crimson Tide.
