2013 DT attracting interest
Boston College is making the defensive line a priority between now and Signing Day but the Eagles are also looking ahead to junior prospects that could help the program in the trenches.
Rashard Budd is one of several junior defensive tackles that BC is keeping an eye on and will be evaluating going forward.
"They came to see me the other day at school," Budd said of the Eagles. "That was about it so far but I know they're interested.
"I've spoken with Coach Ryan Day and he's just talked to me about my grades. I need to bring them up a little bit. I feel like it will be okay but there are a few classes I need to improve in. He told me he likes my highlight tape."
At 6-foot-6 and 275-pounds, Budd has the built of an offensive tackle but he only played on the defensive side of the ball this season.
"I just played defense this year. I play defensive tackle now. I'll probably either play that or defensive end (in college)," he said.
"Right now I'm more of a run stopper."
Budd hasn't had a lot of contact with colleges, nor has he taken any visits. He did say that Virginia and Maryland have shown some early interest but it's not clear whether they may be on the cusp of offering.
While Budd doesn't know a lot about BC that's true of every other school out there.
"I don't know much about them at all," he said. "I really don't know much of anything about Boston College. I hadn't put much thought into them but I'm interested.
"I'm really looking for a place where I can feel comfortable. I'd like to find a good coaching staff and players that I would like to be around. That and a good education."
