DB commit will adjust to new position

West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial defensive back Donovan Henry has spent the last three years on the defensive side of the ball manning one of the safety positions. When he arrives at Boston College he will be adapting to a new position.

The BC coaches have recruited the 5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect to play cornerback. It's a position of need and they believe he has the necessary skill set to step up and make an impact.

West Roxbury finished the season with a 7-2 record. They lost their first game of the year before rattling off seven consecutive victories. In the last game of the year against BC High on Thanksgiving Day, West Roxbury lost. That game cost them a shot at the playoffs.

"During the first half of the season I played well," Henry explained early this week. "I played both ways, running the ball on offense and on defense as a safety.

"I actually got hurt halfway through the season. I dislocated my shoulder so I was out for four games, I think. I came back for the last game of the season."

Missing that much action in your last year of football at any level is a bitter pill to swallow but Henry, unlike so many other high school players, has a lot of football still ahead of him.

Not too long ago Henry took his official visit to BC. It helped him confirm that he made the right decision and now he's looking forward to putting his name on the dotted line in early February more than ever.

"It was a good visit, a really good visit," he said. "I got to get to know the coaches better and I got to be around the players. It was a lot of fun."

Henry said he plans on visiting the school during spring practices to interact with some of his future teammates and coaches so he should be a regular on campus even before enrolling.

He committed to the Eagles in mid-July. Henry is ranked the No. 10 prospect in Massachusetts by Rivals.com.
