Five-star Diggs loves Gainesville
Olney (Md.) Good Counsel wide receiver Stefon Diggs took his third official visit this past weekend as he drove down to Gainesville with family to see the University of Florida. For the nation's No. 8 player overall, the trip allowed him to learn a lot about the program.
"The trip was awesome, all of my questions were answered," said the 6-foot-0, 185-pounder who is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver in the country. "I enjoyed the hot weather I love so much and I got to meet the new offensive coordinator Brent Pease. He's a great guy."
Diggs had been to Florida before when he visited in July for Friday Night Lights. However, the offensive coordinator at the time was Charlie Weis and Diggs and his family really felt comfortable with him and the rest of the staff. However, on this latest trip he got the same feeling with Pease.
"I felt very comfortable in the atmosphere and with the people," he said. "It's a place I can see myself at. Just like every other trip I'm going to go home and re-evaluate my situation. Then I'll get ready for my next visit."
Diggs met with many players and knew some of them.
"I know a lot of the guys," he said. "I met the majority of the team. Andre Debose, Jeff Demps, Solomon Patton and I got to see a lot of guys I already knew. D.J. Humphries and Latroy Pittman are already enrolled and I got to see a lot of guys who were on their officials as well like Tracy Howard, Brian Poole and JaFar Mann. I fit with everyone."
Diggs also feels he fits in Florida's offensive scheme.
"In coach Muschamp's scheme I think I'd fit," he said. "He wants to throw it and run the pro style so it's all about the amount of work I put in. They have a good group of guys now but it's a business, I'm trying to play early so I'm just going to grind."
Diggs had previously been to Cal and Auburn on official visits and didn't want to compare the trips. He has two officials left and could end up taking both of them before he signs.
"Ohio State and Maryland," he said of his next trip. "I'm going to sign on February 10 so I could take both visits."
Diggs went to Florida with most of his family.
