Starcevich attends junior day

Despite suffering an ACL injury last week, Southeast Polk quarterback Kyle Starcevich still made it to Iowa City on Sunday for a junior day with the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Starcevich, who will have surgery on Monday, said the first thing the Iowa coaching staff did was put his mind at ease regarding the injury.

"I thought it went really well," said Starcevich. "I actually got pulled in to talk to Coach Ferentz one on one and that was pretty cool. He wanted to let me know that they're still interested. I tore my ACL last week in a basketball game and he just wanted to reassure me that they're not going to lose interest just because of an injury. He said it happens more often than you think."

"That was really good to hear, especially going into surgery tomorrow," he continued. "It was confidence booster just knowing that nothing's going to change too much."

Starcevich plans to be back on the field when Southeast Polk opens the season this fall, but will likely miss all of the camps that he would have gone to over the summer. That will make senior film even more important for the Class of 2013 prospect, who threw for 2,291 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior.
