Grammer Opens Up

Middle Tennessee hit the jackpot on signing day when three star quarterback Austin Grammer signed to join the Blue Raiders in the fall. Grammer committed to Kevin Sumlin at Houston in June, but things changed when Sumlin left to lead Texas A&M into the SEC.

The roller coaster continued until he finally found a home at Middle Tennessee shortly before signing day.

"They actually called me two Thursdays before my official visit," Grammer said. "The GA on the Alabama staff called coach Faulkner to let coach Faulkner know about me."

Grammer hit it off with the Middle Tennessee coaching staff, and quickly came to Murfreesboro for an official visit.

"I think a lot of it had to with how personal and genuine each coach was," Grammer said. "Location and closeness to home also played a factor."

Grammer also spoke highly of his primary recruiter, coach Buster Faulkner.

"I thought he was a really awesome guy." Grammer raved. "The thing I like about it is that I have two guys that played quarterback at the college level."

Grammer also believes that Faulkner could end up being the offensive coordinator, which is something that excites the future Blue Raider quarterback.

"If Coach Faulkner gets the job, he'll be able to see things through my eyes."

And that is something that Middle Tennessee fans should be excited to hear.

As for Grammer, the 3-star QB possesses the size that Stockstill and his staff have been looking for in a QB. At 6'2", 205 pounds - Grammer will not need too much time in the gym to be ready for the bumps and bruises that come at the next level.

He will, however, likely benefit from a red shirt year to grasp the offense that MT will run. With Logan Kilgore coming in as a Junior this next year, Grammer will likely have a couple of years to challenge for a starting spot, and possibly lead the Blue Raiders on the field before his time is up in Murfreesboro.

Known as an elusive gunslinger, Grammer is exceptionally accurate with his passes, and has deceptive speed when evading defenders - all attributes that have Blue Raider fans excited to see what he brings to the table.
