Narduzzi wants more from Spartan 'D' than he's got thus far

Pat Narduzzi believes Michigan State's defense has a chance to be great.

That is why the sixth-year Spartan coordinator is disappointed with what he has seen from the group through two game in 2012.

"We have played solid defense, but we haven't played mistake-free defense yet," said Narduzzi. "There is expectations about where we want to be. If they say that they want to be here or there, that is how we want to coach them and grade them."

The Michigan State defense has given up just three points through two games. But Narduzzi sees a need for improvement in focus and execution entering his team's Top 20 showdown with Notre Dame on Saturday night.

"I don't think we've been that sharp," said Narduzzi. "I don't think we've been as sharp as we need to be. We had a sharp practice yesterday, so I was happy about that. But we haven't been as crisp and as sharp as we would like to be on defense."
