UNC an early Favorite for Fla. DB Edwards?

Trinity Christian, a high school down in Jacksonville, Florida will be a school that you could hear about when talking about recruitment for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina has offered multiple players down there for the class of 2015, as you will see later on.

However, the first player to recognize is safety Ben Edwards, a 6'0", 196 pound bruiser, who is a ball hawk on the field. Overall, Edwards has seemingly had a good recruitment so far in his young career, as there have been multiple schools showing him interest.

North Carolina has been the latest school to offer and Edwards has informed TarheelIllustrated that the Tar Heels are one of the top teams on his list.

"I really like North Carolina," said Edwards. "When I heard I received an offer from them I was really happy. I always wanted to go there, I just didn't tell anybody. I also like Miami, Georgia Tech, and Florida."

Currently, Edwards holds offers from UNC, Boston College, UMass, Memphis, Navy, FIU, Tulsa, UAB, and a few others. However, there have been other schools that have shown interest in the safety out of Florida.

Defensive Coordinator Dan Disch has been in contact with the sophomore recently, admiring what Edwards has been able to do on the field.

"Coach Disch told me he loves the way I play," replied when asked about his recruitment with UNC. "He loves a hard hitting safety and a player that's not scared to lay the wood. He also told me he likes how I get my work done in the classroom. Overall I really like UNC. They're in my top (schools)."

If one searches for Ben Edwards, one can see what this guy is capable of doing and what kind of player he is on the field. Edwards is a hard hitting machine, who really attacks the ball, while being able to wrap up others; a solid safety that one would want in their backfield.

Edwards was able to describe his strengths and weaknesses with THI, something that he will focus on throughout the summer.

"My strengths would be my tackling and hitting ability along with my speed to chase the football. Weaknesses would be man to man. My man to man coverage skills (is something that Edwards has been working on), but it has approved a bunch though."

THI asked Edwards what kind of player he would describe himself as; Edwards replied "I can provide a hard-worker. I'm a player that is going to go hard and do my job on and off the field. On the field, I'm going to play my heart out, hold nothing back and come in with a mindset that every day is a day to get better. Off the field, I'm going to do my work and stay out of trouble and stay focus on my game."

With answers like that, there is no wonder why schools have been looking at Edwards and showing interest.

Edwards was able to confirm that he will be making some visits in the future to schools such as North Carolina, South Carolina, UCF, Florida, and Wake Forest.

Furthermore, even though North Carolina and Georgia Tech have been showing the safety the most interest, Edwards said that there are no favorites right now, when talking about committing.

But clearly, the Tar Heels are in a great position for the safety from Florida, as UNC has been looking at multiple players at that position and at Trinity Christian High School.
