Brunson, Winston light up Izzo Shootout

EAST LANSING - Day 1 of the 2013 Izzo Shootout team camp ended with one of the more entertaining individual battles in the 15-year history of the annual MSU team camp.

When rising junior point guard Jalen Brunson[/db/] of Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson met rising sophomore guard [db]Cassius Winston of Detroit Jesuit, neither player was concerned about protecting a lofty reputation, or a high national ranking. There was no private school vs public school animosity, no in-state bragging rights at stake, no shoe company rivalry.

There were no hoots and hollers and overreactions from the sideline, no bull-in-the-ring bravado.

The game simply pitted two of the top lead guards in the Midwest, throwing good-natured haymakers at one another within a well-structured team setting.

Michigan State coaches watched from the sideline, deeply interested in both prospects.
