NAMEDROPPER: Still looking for a star at wideout

AUBURN Gus Malzahn's first season as Auburn's offensive coordinator in 2009 unknown wideout Darvin Adams into a star.

He caught 60 balls that season, giving the Tigers a go-to presence in the passing game that help draw defensive attention away from workhorse tailback Ben Tate. Now Malzahn is the team's head coach and his former graduate assistant, Rhett Lashlee, is now offensive coordinator.

Still, Auburn's needs haven't changed.

The Tigers need a featured receiver. His identity isn't yet known.
"There are some guys that I would think (could mimic Adams' effect), but I'd hesitate to say anything because at this time that year, we wouldn't have said Darvin," Lashlee said. "Darvin had had like one or three catches or something like that. Somebody is going to have to step up. I hope it's a couple guys."
