Smith's trying to seize his chance

Sometimes in football, big breakthroughs come first as a result of struggles. Failures on the field can force coaches to make significant changes in order to get the team going.

After an abysmal offensive effort in its 14-3 loss at Pittsburgh, the Virginia coaching staff went looking for answers.

And one of them was to make some personnel changes on the offensive line, hoping to give quarterback David Watford more protection and open up the running game. One of the beneficiaries of that decision was tackle Eric Smith.
