Texas WR enjoys MSU visit

This past weekend one of the players that was in East Lansing on an official visit was wide receiver Darious Crawley of Cypress Ridge High School in Houston, Texas. SpartanMag.com was able to catch-up with the 6-foot-0, 180-pound prospect and get the details of his visit.

The Spartan staff is looking coast to coast to find a wide receiver they believe can be an early impact player. Crawley is one of a few select prospects that the staff has identified as having the potential to be that player. This weekend he took his first official recruiting visit and he talked about his time at Michigan State.

"It was great, Crawley stated. They are a great team and they are playing very well. I really liked the people I met while I was there. They were really nice people to be around. I hung out with wide receiver AJ Troup."

The Spartans are very tight on scholarships for the class of 2015, but they would still like to add another wide receiver to the class. The staff is looking for somebody who has exceptional speed and has the ability to make people miss in the open field. The staff would like someone with a skill set similar to former Spartan Keshawn Martin. Crawley has been that type of player the past few seasons at Cypress Ridge High School.

"The coaches said they like how I am capable of doing a lot of different things and possibly playing different positions."

Crawley is rated a 2-star wide receiver, but do not let that ranking fool you. He has spent much of his high school career playing quarterback and that has limited his exposure as a game-breaking pass catcher. He only switched to wide receiver in the 4th game of the season this year. In addition to Michigan State, Crawley scholarship offers from school such as Iowa State, Kansas, Houston and Colorado State.

We spoke with Crawley about where the Spartans stand after having visited and what his plans are as far as making a college decision.

"Michigan State is my #1 choice right now as that is the only school I have visited,: Crawley said. "I hope to take all of my visits before I make my decision."

The Spartan staff is in no hurry to have players make their college choice. The staff is still actively involved with several wide receiver prospects that will be visiting Michigan State during the month of January. SpartanMag.com will continue to keep in contact with Crawley in the coming weeks. We expect he will take a few more visits which will give him opportunity to compare the Spartans to some of his other top choices.
