Did Cal just land a JuCo cornerback who's better than Tee Shepard?

A lot of recruiting attention has been tossed in the direction of the former 5-star prep and current Rivals Top-10 JuCo recruit.

But did Cal actually land a better cornerback in Itawamba CC's Darius White?

JCGridiron.com's Brad Hoiseth says yes.

White was Hoiseth's top-ranked corner in his annual positional rankings, just ahead of Shepard, who finished No. 2.

"There were as many as 10 different guys we could have put in the No. 1 slot, but this year's most impressive corner was Itawamba's Darius White," White said. "His video is off the charts, as he is one of the better tacklers in the country with shut-down skills. He has sensational hips and locates the ball well, baiting quarterbacks into a lot of bad throws and creating turnovers."

White had a standout 2013 with 53 tackles, six interceptions, and 10 passes break-ups, drawing interest and offers from the Bears, Texas Tech, and Kansas State.

But the promise of a sunnier tomorrow -- both literally and figuratively -- is what landed White in Cal's 2014 class.
