Shoring up the Pipeline

As part of our post-signing day coverage, HuskersIllustrated.com contacted nearly all of Nebraska's class of 2006 signees in order to get to know them better. One signee we hadn't been able to reach until this point in time was Keith Williams. Williams was part of the impressive haul of offensive line recruits that the Husker staff targeted and signed for this class.

Getting to know:

Keith Williams

Offensive Tackle,
Florissant (Mo.) McCluer North

Current size: 6-foot-6, 305-pounds

Rankings:

Williams was named a three-star by Rivals.com and rated the 15th-best prospect postseason Missouri top 20, as well as the 55th-best offensive tackle prospect in the nation overall. As a senior, he earned First-Team Class 5A All-State honors in Missouri. PrepStar named Williams to its All-Midlands region team.

Recent statistics:

Williams started both ways for his senior season. McCluer North didn't keep offensive line stats, but on defense he recorded 24 tackles, with one sack and one fumble recovery. His play on both lines helped lead his team to back-to-back Missouri Class 5A championship game appearances.

Other schools offering scholarships:

Williams also received scholarship offers from Big 10 teams Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan State, and the Big 12's Missouri.

Questionnaire:

1. Who is your favorite football player of all-time?

"I don't have one."

2. Why?

"I just like the game in general. When I look at college football and NFL football, I just watch the offensive line as a whole. I then mimic what I see from the line and their techniques."

3. What is the best football team you've ever seen?

"I like Nebraska's teams back in the day they were winning National Championships."

4. What position will you be playing at Nebraska?

"Offensive tackle."

5. What will you bring to Nebraska as far as a strong point?

"I've kind of been talking to the (Nebraska) coaches and they said they were weak at the offensive line and that's why they recruited very heavily for the offensive line positions. Hopefully this class can help fill in that weakness."

6. What is the one thing you need to work on to play at the next level?

"My speed."

7. Are you planning to redshirt?

"No!"

8. What do you do in your spare time?

"Watch college games - both football and basketball. I'm out of my (NCAA bracket) pool. I didn't pick any final four teams."

9. What food do you like the best?

"Chicken, especially fried chicken."

10. What's your favorite song?

"I don't have one. I listen to a lot of jazz."
