Tech lands first football commitment

Georgia Tech has already made a lot of progress in their recruiting efforts for next year and their hard work has paid off as the Yellow Jackets landed their first commitment on Friday.

Joseph Gilbert, an offensive lineman from Cartersville, Ga., pledged to the coaches while attending spring practice.

Gilbert, who had been offered by Tech in February, attended the Elite Junior Day and had also been at another spring practice earlier in the week.

"I was always real impressed with Georgia Tech," Gilbert said Friday night. "Ever since the Elite Junior Day they got my attention I've been thinking about it a lot since then. It all really impressed me. Everything looked real good for what I was looking for in a college. That night I went home and talked it over with my parents and we decided we'd sleep on it. The next day of course we talked about it a lot more and eventually I decided that Georgia Tech would be the place for me. It's the best college to further my athletic and academic career."
