Basketball Recruiting: What a week!

How about this for a good week?

First, you learn you've been named the top high school basketball player in the state of Florida. Second, the school that you committed to as a sophomore wins the National Championship. And third, you dominate at one of the premier prep basketball tournaments in the country, earning Rivals.com All-Tournament honors.

All in a week's work for Winter Park, Fla., Lake Howell junior Nick Calathes.

After averaging 26.9 points, 4.3 assists, 6.7 rebounds and 3.2 steals a game, Calathes led his school to their third straight final four, earning the Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball award. Calathes becomes just the third junior to ever win the award, joining names like Vince Carter, Amare Stoudemire, Vernon Maxwell and Orien Greene. He joins Miami Senior's Steve Edwards and Hialeah Miami Lakes' Chris Corchiani as the only other juniors to win the award. Both players also went on to win the award in their senior years.
