NC State picks up third verbal commitment

N.C. State picked up its third verbal commitment of the year when Steven Howard of Olympic High in Charlotte, N.C., pledged. Howard is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound receiver who caught

"He felt comfortable with State from the beginning so he could do this and concentrate on his senior season in football," Olympic High head coach Maurice Flowers said. "He wants to concentrate on leading his team to a conference and state championships. He's been thinking about it for a while now.

"He really felt comfortable there. He took a visit last year for the Virginia Tech game, and he loved it at the game. He was able to watch them practice when they came to Charlotte for the bowl game, and he felt comfortable with them. He went up for the junior day a while back, and that sealed it. Coach Portee did a great job."

Flowers added that N.C. State's new offense fits Howard well.
