Brent unsure about future Irish offer
For Josh Brent, participating in the adidas Elite Camp at Notre Dame on Saturday was more than an opportunity to showcase his abilities to the college coaches in attendance. It was a chance for the 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman from Bloomington, Ill., to show the Notre Dame coaches that he has what it takes to play for the Irish.
Brent visited South Bend on April 22 for the Blue-Gold Game and the Irish coaches told him they were excited to see him at the combine. Brent hoped his performance would be enough to earn a scholarship offer, but he now thinks Notre Dame is moving in a different direction.
"Basically they told me they were interested and wanted to see me at the combine," Brent said. "I'm not sure if they are going to offer. My gut feeling is that they won't but I could be wrong. They want the best and I don't think I'm on the level that they want."
Despite his disappointment in not hearing what he wanted from the Irish coaching staff, Brent said he was satisfied with his camp performance.
