Shula calls on Sunshine State DE

Armwood High School defensive lineman Torrey Davis is one of the nation's most sought after defensive end recruits, and this week Alabama head coach Mike Shula was in Seffner, Fla., to watch the 6-foot-5, 290-pounder in action.

"Coach Shula was at my school Monday. He came in to see me. I have a lot of good things to say about a college that sends a head coach in that wants me. I see the head coach on TV all the time," Davis said. "They told me that every coach that watches my tape says, 'we've got to have him', and then they go get another coach to watch it.

"Dave Ungerer is my recruiting coach for Alabama. He's really energetic. I think that's what you need in a coach. I think if I went to Alabama, it would be good to play for him. Alabama may get a visit. I think there's a chance I may head up there and check them out."

Florida, FSU and Georgia are the Tide's toughest competition with the two Florida schools holding down the top two spots.
