Vols courting South Carolina standout

Through the years the state of South Carolina has been good to the Vols on the recruiting front. However, the last couple of years in the Palmetto State has been much more of a struggle then in years past.

Tennessee is trying to reverse that trend as they are recruiting several prospects from South Carolina. One of those is strong safety/linebacker Scotty Cooper of Lake City, South Carolina (Lake City High School).

Cooper is a 6-foot-0, 206-pound outside linebacker who is sporting plenty of offers including one from Tennessee, South Carolina, Clemson, Michigan, NC State, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Cooper's interest in Tennessee is somewhat of a newfound interest thanks in part to a growing relationship with Phillip Fulmer.

"I have started liking Tennessee a lot lately," Cooper offered. "I have been text messaging a lot with coach Fulmer recently and that has helped me get a better feel for Tennessee. I still have to do a lot of research on them, but to me being able to talk to the head coach is important. And my contact with him the last couple of weeks has been good."
