Kempsville WR becoming a top target

Virginia Beach, Va., Kempsville wide receiver Jay Smith has seen his offer list swell to nearly twenty schools over the course of the past few months.

Smith, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound speedster is the star wideout in Kempsville's conservative run-oriented offense.

As a junior, smith hauled in 17 receptions for 280 yards and six touchdowns, but look for Kempsville to find more ways to get him the football this fall.

"We're starting to see a lot of teams playing with nine men in the box as they're loading up to stop our tailback, Kevin Simmons," explained Kempsville Coach Jeff McGowan. "If that's the case, I think you won't find many players in our league that can cover Jay one on one, so we need to get the football out to him in those situations."

Smith's offer list consists of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, West Virginia, Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Miami just to name a few.
