Vols in the Mix for Kentucky Athlete
It's well-covered ground by this point to say that 2007 looks like an unusually good year for football talent in East Tennessee. The abundance of local talent doesn't stop at the state line though. Brent Slusher, from just north of the border in Pineville, Ky., is a player that is now drawing serious looks from SEC and ACC schools, with Tennessee being among those schools that are currently in the mix.
Slusher (6-foot-3, 220 pounds, 4.7 40-yard dash) is a versatile and talented athlete who is seeing his stock steadily rise this spring. He's a standout at both tight end and linebacker, and colleges are divided as to which side of the ball he's best-suited for at the next level.
He's currently holding offers from Wake Forest, Auburn and Vanderbilt and has been receiving substantial interest from Clemson, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, Notre Dame and North Carolina among others.
Tennessee is one of the schools that seems prominently involved in the equation. Slusher has made a pair of unofficial visits to Knoxville this year, making it down for the Vols' Junior Day in January and returning for the Orange & White game in April. He said that he enjoyed both trips and likes what he sees in Knoxville.
