Hayes is sought after by the Rams

Eaglecrest Colo., lineman Charles Hayes has strength, speed, and aggressiveness that college coaches across the country are looking for. So it comes as no surprise that in-state and out-of-state schools are recruiting this junior hard. GoldandGreenNews.com spoke with Eaglecrest head football coach Tom Doherty and talked to him about Hayes.

What type of player is he?

"I've been coaching nine years and he is the toughest, most aggressive kid I've coached. He is also a complete leader in every sense of the word."

What are his main strengths?

"He has so many. One for us is his leadership abilities. He is just the total team player. At the college level, they like his strength and how aggressive he is. Not only that, he runs well for a big guy."

What areas does he need to work on this off-season?

"He is really going to focus on doing more defense. Last year, we had two Division I defensive linemen and one Division II nose guard. We didn't need him there but the colleges are projecting him to play defense. He is really trying to get that footwork down and all the little pieces to be a defensive lineman that he doesn't have."

Will his role change much this upcoming season?

"It won't change but we will add to it. He'll be starting at offensive tackle and he will play a lot more along the defensive line. He is the type of kid who is so big and strong that he is in good shape and won't come off the field a lot on offense or defense. We probably won't list him as a starter on defense but he will go in there quick."
