Bruins put steps in motion
The UCLA Bruin football staff is busy this spring making their presence known hitting high school campuses across the nation. The Bruins are once again taking an aggressive stance on the recruiting trail. If the staff feels that there is a player who can play for them and they are going to put their feelers out to see if the interest is mutual. The may be getting into the hunt with one of the best all-around athletes in the nation.
The player in question is defensive back/quarterback Eric Berry (6-0, 188, 4.5) from Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside. The word is Berry ran a 4.33 forty at the NIKE Camp held in Athens, Ga.
Wide receiver coach D.J. McCarthy was recently on the Creekside campus getting the ball rolling for the Bruins. Until then there has been very little recruitment of the talented athlete from Georgia but they are definitely making up for lost time.
Berry brings a lot to the table as a two-way standout. He earned all-state honors as both a sophomore and a junior. He was also an underclass All-American both seasons. Berry earned Area Player of the Year as a sophomore and Offensive Player of the Year as a junior.
From Berry's quarterback position, he threw for 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns while he rushed for 1,200 yards and scored 12 rushing touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the football, Berry racked up 67 tackles and picked off five passes.
