Is Virginia a player for in-state star Smith?

Virginia Beach, Va., Kempsville wide receiver Jay Smith has emerged as one of the top players in the state of Virginia for 2007.

Smith, whose offer count is approaching 30, is a priority for the Cavaliers in this class. A physical and explosive receiver, Smith is the model of what Virginia is looking for in a wideout.

"Virginia is definitely a school that I am interested in. The coaching staff has made it known how much they want me," Smith said.

Smith, who has offers from Miami, Tennessee, Penn State, Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech and N.C. State, among others, estimates that he has more than 30 scholarship offers at this point.
