Still a two-team race for Lecorn
Displaying his solid route running ability, soft hands and good speed, Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic wide receiver Dion Lecorn showed he was one of the top wide receiver prospects in Florida at the Gainesville NIKE Camp on Saturday. Following his performance, he talked about the camp and the latest in his recruitment, which has evolved into a two-team race.
"I didn't test too well in the 40, but everything else went well in the one-on-ones," Lecorn said. "I learned I was one of the best ones out here in the state of Florida."
On the recruiting front, Lecorn has two schools out in front.
"Right now, I'm looking forward to visiting South Carolina," Lecorn said. "They are one of my top schools, along with the University of Florida."
Gamecocks wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. is recruiting Lecorn for South Carolina.
"I like the way he does things," he said. "I kind of liked how his dad (Steve Spurrier) coached here at Florida."
Lecorn plans to take an unofficial visit to Columbia, S.C., this summer.
Lecorn also likes a lot of different things about the Gators.
"I've always liked Florida," he said. "They are close to home and they've got other great athletes I can play with."
Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen is leading the charge for UF.
"He's a good coach," Lecorn said. "He's a good person. He's good to talk to."
Lecorn has a timetable for making a final choice.
"I'd like to make a decision by the end of the summer," he said.
