Shields working to put academic issues aside

When Sarasota, Fla., Booker High School wide receiver Sam Shields signed with Miami in February, UM fans were relieved.


With little returning depth on the roster at the receiver position, Shields could provide an immediate answer as a big-play speed-burner.


But an obstacle remains for Shields: Getting his academics in order.


He says he's now well on the way to gaining acceptance at UM.


"I had to get two B's to get in -- in English and Math -- and I got them," Shields said.
