Rivals100 WR gets Hurricane verbal offer

A member of the Rivals100, Virginia Beach, Va., Kempsville High School wide receiver Jay Smith says he received a verbal scholarship offer from the University of Miami last week.

"On Friday it went in the mail," he said. "I spoke to coach (Larry) Coker and coach (Marquis) Mosely. Coach Coker was explaining how things were run at Miami, how football players do in academics at Miami.

"Coach Mosely I talk to all the time, every other day. He's a real cool guy. He knows his stuff when it comes to playing receiver. We talk about academics -- he'll tell me general stuff about their playbooks and how their skill players are and things like that."

Smith says he's taken a look at Miami's depth chart and that what's most important to him in a program at the next level is "playing time and academics and just exposure to get to the next level."
