Did ASU camp affect Bates' recruitment?

Omaha, Neb., North High School Dual-Threat Quarterback Phillip Bates has been committed to the Iowa State Cyclones for over a month now, but that did not stop the 6-foot-2, 190 pounder from taking in Arizona State's one day camp last weekend. So what did Bates think about the camp?


"It went pretty good," Bates said. "I got the hustler award so that was good. I threw the ball, ran, and basically did everything like a normal camp. I worked on all parts of my game. I liked it a lot."


Bates has been a very sought after dual-threat signal caller, largely because of the versatility he showed last year on the field as a Junior. He compiled some very balanced running and passing statistics that he hopes will be even better as a Senior. "I threw for 1,270 yards, with 13 passing touchdowns and 8 rushing touchdowns."
