Wake lands Roxboro lineman

The latest news to hit the Wake Forest sports scene is the verbal commitment of Person High (NC) lineman Doug Weaver. The 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle recently made his decision to pick Wake Forest over several other conference rivals.

This fall will mark the fourth year Weaver has started on his schools varsity football team. He has earned several honors including all area and all conference and his powerful play on the field has caught the eyes of many college coaches on the East coast.

The one thing Weaver is known best for is his ability to run block. Weaver has very quick feet and agility for a guy his size. His natural talent to plow over defenders and get down field will fit in well with the Demon Deacons fierce running game.

One of the biggest headlines on Weaver was last October when he committed to Duke but after coaching changes and more offers thrown his way he decided to step back and open his recruiting back up. Weaver had offers from Duke, Maryland, Virginia, East Carolina, and North Carolina State but he chose Wake Forest. This gives the Demon Deacons their third commitment for the class of 2007.

DeaconsIllustrated will have more on Weaver late this week.
