Commitment: Alabama lands DL
With defensive tackle a top priority in its 2007 recruiting class, Alabama landed the first player at the position this week. Bastrop, La., defensive lineman LaMarcus Williams was in Tuscaloosa Sunday for the Tide's one-day mini-camp and his performance earned him a scholarship offer, which he quickly accepted.
"I was at Alabama for camp and had a really good day. I was a little sick, but must have played alright," Williams said. "I called the coaches Tuesday morning and Buddy Wyatt told me I had an offer and I committed then. He said they needed some good interior lineman and I was one of the guys they wanted. He was watching me real close all through the camp and he told me a few times that I was getting it done out there. I expected them to offer; I just didn't know it would be that soon.
"Coach (Charlie) Harbison recruited me and I talked with him too. He's been honest with me since we first met and he told me to get to camp and I would have a chance to earn a scholarship and play for Alabama. He's a cool guy. All of the coaches were great with me. That's one of the reasons I chose Alabama. I love how the coaches treated me this weekend."
